Who is treeslouisville?

Caring for our community one tree at a time.

TreesLouisville is a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing and protecting Louisville’s urban tree canopy through tree planting, education, advocacy, and long-term care. Since 2015, we’ve worked alongside neighborhoods, schools, businesses, volunteers, and community partners to plant and distribute thousands of trees across Louisville — especially in areas most affected by heat, flooding, and low canopy coverage. Together, we’re building a healthier, cooler, greener city for future generations.

Vision

Our Vision is to create a greener, healthier, and more equitable Louisville where every community thrives under the shade of a flourishing urban canopy.

Mission

Our Mission is to improve the health and quality of life of Louisville’s current and future generations through a robust, equitable and diverse community tree canopy.

Why Trees Matter

Trees do more than beautify our neighborhoods. They clean our air, cool our streets, reduce flooding, improve mental and physical health, support wildlife, and make Louisville a more resilient city. Yet many Louisville neighborhoods still lack the tree canopy needed to experience these benefits fully.

That’s why TreesLouisville focuses on expanding canopy where it’s needed most - helping ensure every neighborhood can enjoy the shade, health, and environmental benefits trees provide.

    Ways to Support TreesLouisville

Rooted in Louisville

TreesLouisville was founded in 2015 in response to Louisville’s declining tree canopy and the growing need for a healthier, more resilient urban environment. As neighborhoods faced rising temperatures, increased flooding, and loss of green space, community leaders and residents came together around a simple idea: every Louisville neighborhood deserves the benefits trees provide.

Today, TreesLouisville continues that work by planting trees, educating the community, mobilizing volunteers, and advocating for a stronger urban forest across the city.
