Thanks to funding from The Michelin Foundation in 2018, TreesLouisville was able to take a deep dive into site analysis in the Rubbertown Corridor. The study provide specific recommendations for implementing green infrastructure projects that celebrate and enhance a positive identity of the Rubbertown area with the overarching goal of tree canopy and ecosystem service improvement for the benefit of those living in and around the Corridor.
One of the recommendations of the analysis was to create public outreach opportunities to plant 10,000 trees. These trees are to be planted "reforestation style" in large open spaces, along roadways, on private property, and distributed to homeowners through tree giveaways.
To date we have planted and distributed over 3,000 trees in the Rubbertown Corridor. We will continue to build partnerships and work with the community until we reach our goal. Do you have a potential planting site in the Corridor or live there yourself and would like a tree for your home? Let us know!
