Recognizing that experience is the best teacher, TreesLouisville and the University of Kentucky Department of Landscape Architecture teamed up to produce six landscape designs for our TreesLouisville/Jefferson County Public Schools Campus Tree Canopy Enhancement Program. Led by Dr. Chris Sass, the students from the LA345 Design with Plants course visited the campuses of Unseld Early Childhood Learning Center, Indian Trail Elementary, Doss High School, Shacklette Elementary, Watson Lane Elementary and Kennedy Montessori. They then produced the landscape designs for the campuses as part of their course work. The UK students got an opportunity to create “real life” designs and these campuses get professional and creative landscapes.
Our thanks go out to Dr. Ned Crankshaw, Department Chair, Dr. Chris Sass, LA 345 Instructor, Wes Griffith (Unseld), Azar Daneshvarnejad (Indian Trail), Michelle Lyonette and William Hodges (Doss), Andy Lodder and Kat Ramsey (Shacklette), Morgan Dunay and Brian Roach (Watson Lane), Jonny Wehmer and Joseph Elder (Kennedy).
Barbie Tafel, a local landscape designer (Barbie Tafel Homes and Gardens) and Mike Hayman also volunteered and provided landscape designs for the Campus Enhancement Program.
