Special thanks go out today to Brent Fiaschetti and his 8th grade science class for allowing us to observe as they utilized TreesLouisville’s science unit to study the benefits of trees!
The students discussed the value of trees, the Urban Heat Island effect, road salt use and stream restoration in the classroom. Then they took their arborist’s diameter tapes and tree ID guides outside to measure and identify different tree species on the campus grounds.
Back in the classroom, the students used their calculators and on-line tools to determine the ecosystem benefits that their trees provide to our community. TreesLouisville is incredibly proud to be able to provide this science unit to every eighth grade level science class throughout the system. Hopefully, we are encouraging young environmental scientists, ecologists, horticulturists and arborists!
